Kindergarten/ Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

What is Transitional Kindergarten?

PVUSD offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to students who turn 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd of 2019. Transitional Kindergarten is a district wide, free program to age eligible students. Transportation is available on set routes.

Transitional Kindergarten/Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) will be held at the following sites for the 2019-2020 school year:

Amesti, Ann Soldo, Calabasas, Hall District, HA Hyde, Landmark, Mar Vista, Mintie White, Radcliff, Starlight, and Valencia

The Kindergarten Readiness Act of 2010 (SB 1381) began in the 2012-2013 School Year. This new law changes the birth date for kindergarten eligibility from December 2nd to September 1st and phases in transitional kindergarten classes.

Program Child must turn age 5: 
Kindergarten By September 1
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Between 9/2-12/2

Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (ETK)

Note: As space allows

Between 12/3-2/2

  • 1st priority: Age 5 between 12/3-1/3
  • 2nd priority: Age 5 between 1/4-2/2

 

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)/ Expanded TK Program for the 2019-20 School Year

PVUSD offers Transitional Kindergarten (TK) to all students who turn 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd of the school year ED Code 48000. Expanded TK Slots will be filled with children who turn 5 between December 3rd and February 2nd based on priority of birthday and as space allows.

  • TK/ETK is a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for young children. The program will be taught by credentialed elementary teachers.
  • TK/ETK will be a half day session in the morning or afternoon.
  • The TK/ETK program will offer Transportation to TK/Expanded TK. (Call Transportation Dept. for route at 831-728-6324)
  • TK/ETK is a District wide program but not at all PVUSD School Sites have a classroom.
  • TK/ETK is the first of a two-year kindergarten program: The first year students attend the TK/ETK class; The second year students attend Kindergarten.
  • A student enrolled in TK/ETK during the 2019-2020 school year, will be enrolled in kindergarten at their home school site in the following school year.
  • The TK/ETK program is a public school program and Free to all age eligible students. Expanded TK spaces will be offered until TK classrooms are full.
How To Register Your Student
  1. Go to your Home School to schedule an appointment for the Kindergarten/Transitional Kindergarten Registration. (see flyer for details on Scheduled of Registration dates).
  2. Attend your appointment time to register your child, and bring the following items:
    1. Child’s Birth Certificate, Immunization Card, a recent Physical Exam and Proof of Residence (i.e. PG&E Bill, Water services with Parents name).
  3. Complete the TK/Expanded TK Application at your Registration appointment stating your preference of a school site and for a morning or afternoon session.
  4. PVUSD will notify families by mail in the summer of the TK/Expanded TK site your student will attend before school starts in August of 2019.
